Well, what a day. Early to rise, kittens helping to unpack the suitcase that I am trying to pack, a fabulous church service then 9 hours toying with motorists who seem to have mislaid their knowledge of the Highway Code.

A very hard, as it always is, adieu to the kittens this morning as my week off began straight – or not – after the service. An adult baptism by immersion for Luke this morning made for a fantastic service. The choir sang very well including a hymn arrangement literally thrown together in Photoshop last night (Sibelius and Finale eat your hearts out!). Then, to the roads…

The weather kindly threw it’s worse at me in the first forty minutes, then a happy 25° was achieved with the shades coming back out of weekend retirement. Stop one, Tebay M6. Farmshop, wow – always worth the drive and the unbuttoning of the waistband. Then the M6 reminded me why I hated the stretch South of Preston… Rain, traffic, roadworks, delays – delays!!! By stop two, M6 Toll, I am ready to switch my car for a tank and crush my way through the Birmingham corridor… I finally arrive in Hampshire, a broken man, nine hours after setting off. Now comes the moan… (ing…)

Are all current roadworthy, or otherwise, vehicles magnetised so that they have to drive as close to the central reservation as possible? Eg. The outside bloody lane? Even though it is now considered “naughty”, thousands insist on it. At times the mobility scooter I use in supermarkets could have undertaken them! Also, I have – having come from church this morning – been giving way, letting people out, even letting people go in front of me at the motorway services ALL DAY and how many of the dozens do you think said or indicated their thanks in those 445 miles??????????? ONE ! Just one person. Please, someone, restore my faith in humankind before I take to life as a mountain goat…
